Swim For Humanity - India

It’s been a long journey for the Indian woman. From the four corners of a kitchen to the glass windows of a board-room, it’s been a journey of many celebratory highs. Even the lows have been crammed with learning.

Every day, a woman you know is constantly conquering her circumstances and emerging a winner – a queen of her own little world.

March 8th of every year is the day we celebrate these stories of women who lead normal lives with exemplary beauty, dignity, and grace.

On International Women’s Day, we commemorate women who dare to do something more than what they can. And go a step ahead.

Dr Mythili Ramakrishna is one such woman with her own story to tell. She is a fantastic person, a true friend who will never give up and a strong woman. She has overcome every imaginable challenge in her life and has recently completed a Masters in Public Health from the prestigious London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Now she has decided to
swim across the English Channel from England to France, one of the world’s toughest swims in September 2011 with long training sessions throughout the year, dedicating it for the greater good of humankind. And she is doing this to raise funds for Madhyama Prasaran and Scientific Research Foundation.

Madhyama Prasaran and scientific research foundation is a not for profit non-governmental organization founded in December 2007 - working among children, women, highly vulnerable and marginalized populations in the areas of Health and Education. With our motto as "Ignorance is NOT Bliss!" we strive to use various scientific, current and innovative methodologies to create awareness and engage different communities in various health and education related issues. We integrate theatre, arts, science and technology to propagate these vulnerable populations towards health seeking behaviours and make them aware of their rights. We also give special importance to HIV and sexual health.

Mythili has been associated with MPSRF right from its inception and has been closely involved in its activities both while in India and now while in London.

It is only appropriate that we support this endeavor of hers and do our bit for humankind.

And celebrate the essence of womanhood.
